"Ask and it shall be given to you" that was part of Jesus's speech to his disciple in Matthew 7:7. He went on further to add: "For everyone who asks receives.." in verse 8.
Everyday we ask someone for something. We ask friends, shopkeepers, siblings, teachers, colleagues, parents; you name it. Why ask? Because we want something we do not have.
God is saying ask me. We find ourselves in situations that we know only God can resolve. Why not ask him to help us out.
Jesus continued to talk to his disciples about asking. He said "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who will ask him" Matthew 7:11.
How do you ask?
By yourself. You do not need to suit up or change the way you talk. Ask respectfully as you would do when asking from someone older than you.
God is your Father, if you have been born of him. Simply ask your father for what you need.
Jesus said: "Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full" John 16:24
"In nothing be anxious, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:6-7
